Hans Laagland is a much appreciated painter of portraits and is regularly called upon to paint formal and ceremonial portraits. Some examples of the latter can be seen at the Norbertine Abbey in Postel and in the portrait gallery of the Belgian National Parliament (the portrait of E. Vankeirsbilck, a former Speaker of the Chamber of Representatives).
